As our class is a large part about using redstone, I thought I might go over the big changes coming in 1.5! Now, of course, all information here is subject to change at any time. For the latest updates about 1.5, please check the Minecraft wiki here:
First, the History of the Redstone Update. It was announced at MineCon 2012 by the Minecraft Team. Shortly after the festivities of MineCon 2012 were over, the development of 1.5 was underway. Since then, 6 snapshots have come out, causing many to suspect that 1.5 will be coming out in February.
So, now onto the actual update. There are two main parts to the Redstone update, gameplay and the new blocks and items. I'll be focusing on the gameplay first.
Gameplay
So the main gameplay changes are inventory management and improved death messages.
The big inventory changes are:
Drag item stacks around to divide them up over the dragged-over slots
This will make creating multiple items like chests much easier.
⇧ Shift+ Double Click items in a crafting area to place all items in the inventory.
This will make it easier to return all items to your inventory without taking tons of time to return each individual stack to your inventory, or having to leave your inventory and pick up all the items.
Next, the improved death messages. Instead of showing simply [player] hit the ground too hard, depending on what you fell off of, a different death message would be shown in chat. For example, in 1.4.7, if I had fallen off the ladder to any one of my sky houses, it would show "tridragon22 hit the ground too hard". However, in 1.5 it would instead show "tridragon22 fell off a ladder" or "tridragon22 fell off some vines" depending on what I used for my climbing material.
Also, if I was playing PvP with my brother and he killed me with a stone sword, in 1.4.7 it would show tridragon22 was slain by deathdagger. In 1.5, it would show either "tridragon22 got finished off by deathdagger using stone sword" or tridragon22 was slain by deathdagger using stone sword".
